One of my favorite hymns recently is Sanctuary. The words by John Thompson and Randy Scruggs are as follows:
Lord, prepare me to be sanctuary, pure and holy, tried and true;
With thanksgiving, I’ll be a living sanctuary for You.
I can sing these words over and over each day and get something new from them every time. I have recently been dealing with the part that says “I’ll be a living sanctuary for You.” Why? Maybe it doesn’t hit you like it does me.
You see, the only one who can make me a living sanctuary is Jesus. God cannot look or dwell with sin. It is through His Son Jesus that I am able to come before Him and call Him Father. It is only that I am a living sanctuary for Christ this is possible. I want Him to use me each and every day as much as possible for Him and being a dead sanctuary will not accomplish that!
In Psalm 15:1-2 we read:
Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill?
He who walks uprightly, And works righteousness, And speaks the truth in his heart:
